The Art of Gazing

Think of going outside on a dark night because you want to see stars. At first you can hardly see. Then as your eyes adjust, stars appear in a night sky one by one. The stars were always there, but now you can see.

We meet because we want to see God and what he might be doing in this world or our own often messy lives. When we meet we will spend the time letting our eyes adjust, and receiving God’s loving gaze. We will probably talk about the pinchy parts of life, or the good parts. If you like, we will spend some time quiet. We might cry, or laugh. In various ways we gaze with curiousity, pleasure , and wonder at the God who sees us. God’s loving gaze transforms us. Sometimes the change is instant and dramatic. Usually it happens gradually and gently.

“The loving eye can even coax pain, hurt and violence toward…renewal.”
